Quad/Graphics Tours Set

For those of you who are curious what we will be doing on the spring trip, we now have tours set. We will be touring three facilities on Friday, April 1st – Hartford CR/T, the Hartford Plant, and the Sussex headquarters. Hartford CR/T is the ink manufacturing division of Quad/Graphics, the Hartford plant is a LEED certified facility that specialize in weeklies, and Sussex is the world headquarters that houses several cutting-edge technologies that most people in the industry don’t get to see such as robotics and the intense automation of many printing processes.

Resume Workshop

Business Cards

Planning on an internship next summer? Quad/Graphics, like every year, is taking interns for the summer of 2011. Even better they are now taking interns in Midland, MI. If you plan on visiting them at the job fair, and hopefully interviewing with them you can increase your odds by applying online. As usual, we got screwed on the bed sheet banner just like everything else. Ferris never ceases to amaze me, they reward tackiness and horrible design. We should have known better, rather than make a bed sheet that looks good we should have tie-dyed it. Lame.

Maze Cutout

The cutout has been printed on the Vutek. All we need to do now is work on the plywood. We have to paint it with a sealant, mount it, and cut out the holes. We are meeting tomorrow night in the light table room at 6:30PM to work on it. See you there.

As of right now we are planning on working on the cutout tomorrow, the 23rd, instead of Monday. We will be meeting in the light table room at 6:30PM. We will have the image printed off on the Vutek so all we need to do is cut the holes for the faces and paint. All the supplies will be provided, but be sure to dress accordingly because we are painting.

Fail Whale

Our two ideas for fundraising last week – cookie dough and coffee & doughnuts – failed. We can’t turn around dough that quickly for the Chicago trip, and the school will not allow us to sell doughnuts because they are not individually wrapped. If we do sell any food at Rankin, it needs to be prepared by University Catering, fail. We are still looking into other fundraising options at this point, suggestions are appreciated.

Quad/Graphics acquired Worldcolor in July of this year. As some of you may know there is a former World, now Quad, plant in Midland, MI. In the past, World took interns and Quad is continuing that tradition. Just to be clear, Quad is also offering positions in Milwaukee, however they have not opened the application process. Hey everybody. This year I’ll be focusing on raising funds for specific reasons rather than just because. Our trip to Chicago will be the goal of the Fundraising committee. Once we know the cost the committee will work on ways to pay for the trip. This way, with a goal in mind, we can better focus ourselves and ultimately raise more money for a trip. Each individual within the GAA is responsible for paying their way for the trip and my goal is to help as much as I can. This is a group effort, if we each do our own part we can make the GAA a great RSO.

This site is pretty radical. Not only does it feature beautiful design, it helps keep the print industry alive.
