			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Election Day will be November 1 during the general meeting, which takes place at 11AM in SWAN 218. You must be there if you are a paying member and want to vote. Each of the nominees will give a 1-3 minute speech, followed by a question and answer session. We will then vote, and the votes will then be handed over to Conati. He will announce the new E-Board at the banquet.</p>
<p>There is also a change in the electing procedure. The nominees will be allowed to run for multiple positions. When the votes are handed over to Conati, he will start off at President and make his way down. From there, if someone is elected for a higher position, then their name will be crossed out for the other positions. This change was done to give members a chance to get on the E-Board to show their leadership skills instead of tying them down to one position.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Before the job fair, Independent Printing Co., Inc. and Quad/Graphics will be having a presentation on Thursday, October 6 from 9AM-11AM in SWAN 218. They will be talking about the company, culture, and the positions that they are offering for jobs and internships. Brandon Martinez and David Curley will be speaking for Independent, while Tom Walker and Ben Kreuzer will be speaking for Quad/Graphics.</p>
<p>The job fair for the fall semester will be held on Thursday, October 6 from 11AM to 3PM. This event will take place at the Wink Arena.</p>
<p>I strongly encourage everyone to attend, whether or not you are looking for an internship or a job. It is important to start building relationships with companies and employers, as they may help you find an internship or job later on.</p>
<p>The following companies will be looking to talk to people that have a printing background:</p>

<li>InnerWorkings</li>
<li>AJM Packaging Corporation</li>

<p>Talk to other companies that are there as well, as they may have information about jobs or internships in the printing industry.</p>
<p>The items that you should have on hand with you are 5-10 resumes, business cards, and positive energy. Also, dress up for this event. You want to present yourself in a professional way to these employers.</p>

<p>We will have three big cards available in the GAA office from Monday to Tuesday at 10:00AM. Please take the time to sign it and put a thought or two about the professor, as they have done a number of different things for both the printing program and the students.</p>
<p>There will be <strong>FREE PIZZA AND CAKE </strong>provided.</p>
<p>For this reason, there will not be a general meeting on Tuesday, April 26.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Due to some difficulties with the design, we are modifying the way the t-shirt looks in terms of the colors and position of the logo. The shirt will still be a one-sided design, as the general assembly voted for. We will be changing some of the ink colors, as the CMYK colors either conflict with each other or do not match. Chris has showed us an ink chart for the company, and the magenta would not look like magenta at all.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>The design is still in the bottom left corner, one-sided. Same design, different colors.</strong></p>
<p>For these reasons, we will be finalizing the t-shirt this Thursday at the committee meeting. If you want to help or give suggestions, I strongly recommend you be there.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The trip will be from April 1 &#8211; 3, 2011. We will be leaving Friday morning (time TBA), and returning Sunday night. The mode of transportation is two vans. Depending on Chicago traffic, the trip should be around 6 hours. We will be staying at Days Inn in Wauwatosa, which is close to all the plants and Milwaukee.</p>
<p>As of right now, the estimated cost of the trip is $120 per person. This is budgeted for 12 people, so the cost may change depending on the amount of people that attend.</p>
<p>If you sold cookie dough, all the money that you raised will go towards the spring trip.</p>
<p>A reminder that a $20 deposit is due tomorrow, February 22 for the trip. This will be non-refundable.</p>
<p><strong>Friday: </strong>Tour three Quad/Graphics plants. They are the Hartford CR/T, Hartford, and the Sussex Headquarters. We will make dinner arrangements, possibly with alumni.</p>
<p><strong>Saturday: </strong>Free day at Milwaukee</p>
<p><strong>Sunday: </strong>Leave to go to Big Rapids.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As a heads up for tomorrow&#8217;s meeting I wanted to make sure everyone got a copy of the revised Constitution and Bylaws. The E-Board and C-Board met on the 29th of October to update the Constitution so that it is more relevant and easier to understand with some of the changes that have happened in the GAA over the last few years.</p>
<p>As per our rules, the changes cannot be made official until they are presented to the general assembly and passed by majority vote. We will be holding a vote to approve the document as it is written in this PDF tomorrow, and if you have any questions, changes, or complaints that will be your time to voice them.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Nomination Day</strong></span></p>
<p>The E-Board nomination ceremony will be this coming Tuesday, October 25th during the general meeting at 11AM in SWAN 218.  You <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>MUST</strong></span> <span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">be at the meeting in order to cast your nomination ballot. You can only nominate someone, or yourself if you choose, if you are a paying member.</span></span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: normal;">Each paying member will be able to nominate one person for each position (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Commissioner at Large). There will also be a section for the C-Board. This is purely for information purposes for the Vice President when choosing the C-Board chairpersons.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: normal;">Only current freshman, sophomores, and juniors will be able to hold position for the upcoming Spring/Fall 2011 term. If you are interested in running for a position, talk to current members. Seniors will be allowed to serve as a C-Board chairperson only.</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-weight: normal;"><span id="more-1319"></span></span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Election Day</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The election of E-Board nominees will be held on Tuesday, November 2nd. The nominees for each position will be give a 2-5 minute speech on why they should be voted for their position. If there is only one person for the position, a vote of confidence will be enacted.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The election process will be explained before the nominations ceremony on Tuesday, October 25th.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">There will be more information regarding the nomination and election process at the general meeting on Tuesday.</p>

The job fair is an excellent opportunity for students to network with the industry leaders, whether you&#8217;re looking for a job or not. We expect that <em>all members attend the job fair</em>, so in preparation we ask that everyone attends at least one resume workshop that we will be holding in Swan 218 over the next two weeks. The first will be this Thursday, October 21 @ 6:30 p.m., and the second will be Tuesday, October 26 @ 6:30 p.m. If you plan on attending the Job fair, it is <em>mandatory that you attend</em> at least one of these workshops. If you have a resume, please bring it to share with others, and if you do not yet have a resume, bring an open mind and a notebook. Sharing and presenting any resources or ideas that you may have during the workshop is strongly encouraged.</p>

The picnic will be at Prof. Smith&#8217;s house, and directions will be made available online and in SWAN 220 beginning next week. There will be free food and drink, as well as music, games, and weather permitting boat rides/swimming in the lake. If you need a ride please sign up on the sheet posted in SWAN 220 on the GAA office door.</p>

<p>SkillsUSA was a success!  The competition was held on Friday and Saturday, April 15-16.  17 contestants competed in the secondary level, as well as 4 students in the post-secondary level.  Students were tested on their knowledge in prepress, workflow, press, bindery, production planning, and their overall knowledge of printing.</p>
<p><span id="more-778"></span></p>
<p>Jim Cloudman, one of the workflow judges was reached for comment.  &#8221;It was interesting to see how the students handled the challenges of the workflow competition,&#8221; explaining his surprise on how well the students did.  He was one of the many judges that helped made this competition possible.  Other judges included Mackenzie Thayer, Greg Wojciechowski, Tina Yahr, Brandon Martinez, Kameron James, and Logan Cashin.</p>
<p>Ferris State University and Graphic Arts Association alumni Amela Mujkic and James O&#8217;Gorman were spotted at the competition judging the production planning and press, respectively.  They were welcomed by current students and professors, sharing stories and jokes.  Mujkic also showed everyone a copy of Entertainment Weekly that included a video within the magazine, in which everyone was awestruck by the sight.</p>
<p>In the end, everybody was proud of themselves for making it through the competition.  Though tired, the contestants gave each other a round of applause for competing and the advisors congratulated them for representing their high school and college.  For the post-secondary level, Mackenzie Thayer took the gold, followed by Kyle Busse taking the silver and Josh Bunker taking the bronze.  Nanette Binagatan, the fourth contestant, didn&#8217;t place, but she was glad that she had the chance to compete.  Thayer will go on to compete in Nationals, which will happen June 20-25th of this year.</p>
<p>Not to be forgotten, the competitors and advisors gave Pat Klarecki a huge &#8220;thank you&#8221; for making the Graphic Communications competition possible.  His hard work and dedication to SkillsUSA is noteworthy, and he will build on this years competition to make a better competition for next year.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If you haven&#8217;t already noticed, there are a couple changes going on with the site, and the GAA in general. I&#8217;ve added a new tab on the top navigation bar that will have all of the minutes from our various meetings. The side bar has two new links as well. One if for the digital version of our GAA handbook for new members, and the other is a link to our weekly agenda for our general meetings.</p>
<p>We have lots of other great things planned to make the web site better, and to get more information out in the open for the public and our members. Brandon is working on changing the theme of the website around to be more like a site and less like a blog, and hopes to have it done by the end of the semester. And I will be working on assembling several documents on how to utilize all of our services to make it easier to stay in touch, and up to date, with the GAA</p>
